When Is Extraction Necessary?
Severe decay: When decay has destroyed too much tooth structure for a filling or crown to restore it.
Advanced gum disease: When bone loss has left the tooth without adequate support.
Fractured tooth: A crack that extends below the gum line and cannot be repaired.
Impacted teeth: Teeth that haven’t erupted properly and are causing pain or damage to adjacent teeth.

Types of Extractions
Simple extraction: For teeth visible above the gum line. Quick — typically 10 to 15 minutes — with rapid healing.

Recovery
Day 1: Bite on gauze for 30-45 minutes. Apply ice packs 20 minutes on, 20 off. Soft foods only. No straws, spitting, or smoking.
Days 2-3: Mild soreness manageable with ibuprofen. Rinse gently with warm salt water. Continue soft foods.
Days 4-7: Discomfort fades. Gradually return to normal foods.
